New stuff/ works in progress
Working on 2 different series at the same time. This one is a continuation of my works on the spirit. Title: ‘Touch’. The gift we have to touch another person, seems to be only granted in this short life we have while we are in these bodies. I know its cheesy but like in the movie ‘ghost’ when Sam would do anything just to be able to touch Molly again…tear* Well that sort of thing.

Acrylic on canvas (Work in progress) 24” x 24”
For this piece I’ve really been inspired by nebula in space…for example:

I don’t know why but I’m just sooo drawn to them, the beauty… there is so much energy pulling the billions of little specks and dust and matter in. It seemed appropriate to associate love with space.
Very different from most of my work where I find myself inspired by the microscopic. Speaking of which a new series of smaller works about Lichen. All approx 10” x 10”. I just love the organic patterns and diversity you can find in them.

Sadly Ive lost my license to my Adobe products, and as you can see my photo skills…are lacking to say the least. (you try cropping in Microsoft paint!)
So those are the newest updates…I’m headed to 111 Minna tonight for:
Sketch Tuesdays!!! Come check it out and buy some cheap art!

One & One
It’s already a week into June…WTH? where does the time go? seriously…
So it’s been a while since I’ve updated with anything new, first i want to post some pics of the paintings that went over to NY for the last show for anyone who missed it. I really think I’m on to something here with these paintings…I definately want to explore this theme and delve a little deeper into it.
Essentially the whole series has to do with the Soul. It all started with an experience. Something that I am certain i felt, but can’t prove. Feeling another person’s soul/spirit and knowing that our souls were connecting. All I know as an artist is to put those feelings and experiences into my art. I’m not trying to claim that I have the answers or that these are concrete theories that I’m out to prove, no. they are fundamentally visual questions that I am throwing out there to the world asking others to be part of the discussion.

‘One & One’ (Part 1) Acrylic on canvas 30” x 40”

‘One & One’ (Part 2) Acrylic on canvas 30” x 40”

So there they are, the first of many more to come. The questions I am asking in these paintings have to do with the connections between 2 people. The 2 paintings are really of the same event. Part 1 is the spirit side, there are two spirits coming together and the world/universe is all around them, and on the right are the actual physical people. The next ideas i want to bring into the series are birth and death. There is so much more thought process behind these but that’s the simple 2 sentence explanation.

May 5: ‘Pretty Please?’
‘Pretty Please?’ at The Gallery Bar (www.gallerybarnyc.com)
120 Orchard Street (between Delancey and Rivington)
Open bar sponsored by Svedka from 7pm-8pm.
GOOD NEWS! I’m going to be participating in a group show in NYC starting May 5. Cinco de Mayo! All of the 8 artists participating are FABULOUS!! Free Drinks and Great People! So try to make it over there:
Artists:
Maggie Brophy, George Harbeson, Dan-Ah Kim, Devin McGrath, Andres Rivera, Shinyung Schwartz, Fiona Struengmann, and Gabriel Tick
The story:
If you could ask for a change, a new beginning, a second chance, or a way out, what would it be? How far would you be willing to go to start anew? Would it be physical, emotional, spiritual, or maybe even supernatural?
In these desperate times, people are resorting to increasingly desperate measures to get themselves out…out of depression, out of debt, out of loneliness, out of self-loathing, or out of responsibilities. Whether it be money, a break in fame, even an ultimate end, what is it that you desire? What lengths are you willing to go to achieve the impossible, improbable, or even to obtain the unobtainable? When you’ve reached your breaking point, what will be your salvation?
“If I could ask for one thing in my life, what would it be? Can I have it… pretty, please?”
Review of my show by ArtBusiness.com
So, i got a great review by Art Business.com They reviewed the shows on First Thursdays throughout San Francisco. I’m so happy with the way the first show turned out :) Here is a copy of it as well as a link to the site. Check it out
Kokoro Studio: Zoom Zoom Zoom - Nature’s Happy Trail - Shinyung Shwartz.
Review and images by Geoff Smith: Kokoro Studio presents the one person show “Zoom Zoom Zoom - Nature’s Happy Trail,” featuring the art of Shinyung Shwartz, a Bay Area based artist by way of Parsons School of Design in New York City.
In this series of paintings Schwartz provides one artist’s view of the beauty and complexity of life as it might appear under the lens of a microscope, revealing detail and colors otherwise hidden from the naked eye in the world around us. Through her art she provides a conduit to our fundamental constituents, including the cellular entities that make up the very fiber of our being. Her work allows the viewer to explore below the surface, providing a stunning glimpse into an otherwise unseen world. The images possess a unique beauty of color, form and design, and impart a refreshing appreciation for the fundamental designs of life itself.
From Schwartz’s artist statement… “As an artist I have always been compelled and fascinated by nature. Of course, the beauty and grandeur in the big scheme of things will always be enthralling, but I am more intrigued by the minute details and patterns found in the tiniest of places, that which goes unseen to the naked eye. Understanding these exquisitely complex blueprints that make up our everyday world are what drives me as an artist. I want to magnify the minuscule into the large and make people ask themselves What in the world is that?”
Schwartz has experience as a graphic designer after graduating in 2007 from Parsons in New York. This Koroko exhibition may be Schwartz’s first gallery one person show, although she already has a second show scheduled for next month in New York. The quality of her work is impressive, particularly for this early stage of her career. I look forward to checking out her new work and future shows as they unfold.
